Urdu, Computer and history

Myriad languages across the world have benefited a great deal with the advent of information technology and the computer. In comparison to other languages, Urdu has not received as much attention and the challenges are manifold. However, if the focus is put back on Urdu, a lot more can be accomplished within a short span of time.

Urdu research and development has a humble history. In today’s globalized and liberalized world, a few languages have almost become extinct and many will head in the same direction unless they are upgraded to the latest technology. The fate of the Urdu language lies in the hands of people who love Urdu and are ready to take the initiative to promote it, and foresee a glorious future for the language.

Urdu has been one of the foremost classical languages of India for centuries. The beauty and ascent of the Urdu language is still praised in every society and even its adversaries love it. The battle to save and promote the Urdu language is still on. Urdu as the spoken language is popular both among the masses and the intellectual class. When there was a huge wave of computerization of other languages in the 1980s, in particular the Indian languages, Urdu did not take advantage of the situation. With care and diligence a solid platform can be laid now where global techniques are available, by eradicating limited Urdu software which addresses unprofessional results.

Urdu language software right from its inception has never responded to the challenges of the 21st century. It has never been able to cope up with the changing times and rapid technological advancements and has never provided its users the capabilities to gain a competitive edge in the industry.
